I almost always welcome autumn with open arms--three months of hot summer is usually enough and I'm ready for a change. This year, however, in what will go down in memory as the most perfect summer ever for Connecticut, I don't wish to give it up; these chilly mornings make me sad. My mood brightens once I start picking the tomatoes!
