Summer CSA Week 5

Crazy rains the last couple of days, and one field was too wet to walk in today, so if we stay dry overnight, we'll have some last minute harvesting tomorrow.

So far we have:

2 heads of lettuce
Spring onions
Red Russian Kale--I've found that blanching chopped kale for a couple of minutes in boiling water reduces bitterness and softens it nicely for further cooking.  Here's a quick, tasty, and nutritious dish with the kale: http://summertomato.com/tag/red-russian-kale/
Cabbage!  Lovely young caraflex or chinese green.  A very easy and tasty dish: http://www.cooks.com/recipe/2g90o8n5/fried-cabbage-with-bacon.html
More cherries
Parsley
Depending on what I can get to, zucchini, carrots, and/or peppers
Might harvest some young garlic if it is sized up.

See you soon!
