Summer CSA Week 12

Peak tomato week!

In the share this week:

2 pounds of tomatoes!
1 pint cherry tomatoes
Radishes
peppers or cucumbers
zucchini or patty pan squash
beans
garlic
onions
peaches or pears or apples

We're at a mid-season lull on greens--at the stand there is some chard, senposai, and lettuce (slightly bitter--use a good dressing!)  Heat returns early next week, so the parade of tomatoes should continue.  Potatoes start next week--great crop this year.

Don't forget about our upcoming cooking class: http://gardenofideas.com/gardenofIdeas/programs_Cooking.html

Week 11

Important note: please don't take an extra salad mix in place of something else this week!!!!!!!!!!

I have enough for everyone, but not much more than that.  Funny thing about lettuce and 90 degree heat...they don't get along!

In this week's share:

Salad mix
Tomatoes...a CSA member sends this recipe along: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/tomato-basil-salad.print.html
Garlic
Chinese Kale or Mustard...Try this with the Chinese Kale: http://steamykitchen.com/21999-chinese-broccoli-garlicy-ginger-miso-sauce-recipe.html
Peaches or Italian Plums or Apples--including the new early variety called Zestar!!!!! Bred by the same team that developed HoneyCrisp.  This is the best early apple I've had!
Beans
Some mix of patty pan squash, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, baby beets...

Thanks!!!!!

Week 10!!! Announcing Farm to Table Dinner!!!

Holy Cow!  Lots of food this week...peak of summer, no question.

But first:

Chef Susie Buckley has been conducting monthly cooking classes in the Garden of Ideas using our produce.  Participants have raved about the food!

So now Susie and I are planning a Farm to Table dinner in the Garden of Ideas on Saturday, September 12.  We will take a maximum of 24 people.  First to respond will secure seats at the table in the greenhouse!  Tickets are $75 per person.  All proceeds go to our non-profit, Friends of the Garden of Ideas.  Menu will be vegetarian, and will consist of deliciously prepared vegetables from our farm.

Let me know if you'd like to attend.  First come, first serve!

In this week's share:

Tomatoes!
Beans!  (Green, yellow, purple, Romano...take your pick.  The Romanos do need to cook a bit longer than the others...)
Lettuce!!
Salad Mix or arugula or microgreens
Patty Pan squash or giant zucchini!
Garlic
Cucumber
Pepper or eggplant
Basil
Peaches or plums or apples!!!!! (Redfree, earliest apple of the year!)

Week 9!!!!

What a stretch of weather!  Please remember this in 6 months!

Lots of food this week:

Beans
Peppers
Cucumbers
Lettuce
Swiss Chard or Red Russian Kale
Onions
A bit of basil
Garlic
Patty Pan squash or some zucchini

Patty Pans seen to scare most people...don't be scared!  Use them like zucchini.  They tend to hold their texture better, and have a wonderful slightly sweet taste.  Here's a very simple recipe:

http://www.foodrenegade.com/buttery-patty-pan-squash-with-basil-recipe/

Tomatoes are coming!  Should be next week or the week after in the share.  Pints of cherries and some tomatoes are at the stand.

Woodland Farm is in-between peach varieties, so I don't have enough for the share this week.  What I have is at the stand.  Delicious as always.

If anyone requested later pick-ups this week: yes, whatever day fits your schedule!  We are harvesting everyday so the stand will remain well stocked.

Thanks.
